Absentee bids—also referred to as left, order, or commission bids—allow you to place a maximum bid amount on individual lots. During the sale, Lakeshore will bid on your behalf up to that amount, making every attempt to secure the lot at the most competitive price.
Why absentee bid? Absentee bidding allows you to participate in the auction up to a set amount, even if you are unavailable on the day of the sale.
When bidding by phone, Lakeshore will call you during the sale just before your specified lots are to be auctioned. This enables you to bid live, with a Lakeshore phone representative acting as a liaison between you and the auctioneer. When phone bidding, you are bidding in real time as if you were in the auction room. Because it is live, you do not have to reveal, or determine, your maximum bid until you are actively bidding.
Why phone bid? If you are unable to attend the auction, this method allows you to bid most competitively and with the most control over your activity. You can go head-to-head with other bidders as if you were present in the room.
On the day of the sale, you can bid live during any auction from your desktop computer or mobile device! Bidding live online allows you to participate in real time no matter where you are physically located. By bidding live, you do not have to reveal, or determine, your maximum bid until you are actively bidding.
In addition, Lakeshore Auctions are posted to third-party sites such as Live Auctioneers, Invaluable, and iBid. These platforms handle registration, process and execute all bids, and electronically transfer your bids to Lakeshore during the sale. Please note there is an additional fee for bidding via third-party platforms.
Why bid online or mobile? Online and mobile bidding allows you to follow the auction in real time and bid at your discretion during the sale. It also enables you to submit absentee bids in advance.
You can attend the live auction on the day of the sale, which is free and open to everyone. Registration takes just minutes, and all you need is photo identification and a credit card. Once registered, you’ll receive a paddle to bid on any lot in the sale by simply raising your paddle when the lot opens.
Auctions are held at our gallery:

Why bid live? Being at the auction gives you the most control over your bidding and a firsthand understanding of your competition.
You can submit bids directly via the item page for any lot in our upcoming auctions! Simply click the Bid button to the right of the item image, and a window will guide you through the bidding process and available options. If you haven’t logged in or registered for a sale, you’ll be prompted to do so first. If you’re logged in and registered, you’ll be asked to select your bid method: Phone or Absentee.
If you select Phone Bidding, Lakeshore will call you on the day of the sale just before the item is auctioned. You will need to provide at least one Day of Sale telephone number where you can be reached. We encourage you to provide more than one number and/or leave a backup bid for us to execute on your behalf in case we are unable to reach you.
For Absentee Bidding, enter your MAXIMUM bid amount (not including the buyer’s premium) for each item. Lakeshore will bid competitively on your behalf, attempting to secure the item at the lowest possible price up to your maximum.
All absentee bids must adhere to the following increment schedule:
If a bid is placed off-increment, it will be rounded down to the nearest on-increment dollar amount. In cases where two identical absentee bids are registered by different bidders, the bid received earliest will prevail.
Yes, after placing a left bid or phone bid request via our website, you will receive a confirmation for each lot. If you contact the Lakeshore Bid Department directly by email or phone, you will also receive a bid confirmation detailing the lots you wish to bid on.
It is important to review all bid details—whether in bid confirmation emails or on the MY BIDS page when logged into our website. This is your opportunity to verify all critical information to ensure accuracy. The confirmation also serves as the official bid form for your records.
This step is quick and easy but very important, so please review the bid information thoroughly and respond if any adjustments are needed.
The pace of the auction on the day of sale will determine when your lot comes up, but auctions generally progress at a rate of 60–70 lots per hour. Our auctions typically start at noon Central Time with either lot 1 or lot 100.
On the day of the sale, you can follow the auction live on our website at lakeshoreauctions.com or contact the gallery at 561-267-3765 to check the status of your lot.
Within a few hours of the auction's conclusion, the sale results will be posted on our website at lakeshoreauctions.com.
If you are the successful bidder, you will receive an invoice within 24 hours of the auction. This invoice will include all the details needed to make payment and begin the shipping process.
